In 2018, my husband and I took a trip to the Bourbon Trail. He’s taken several motorcycle trips there with his buddy, and always returned sunburned, relaxed, and full of tales. (And yes, his saddlebags were full of bourbon!) My mother thought the choice of a bourbon-centric getaway odd since I’m not really a drinker, but this trip was about a lot more than bourbon. It was about spending time together, away from daily routines and the challenges that go with it. No work, no computers, minimal cell phone contact…
Kentucky is beautiful with its rolling hills, horses, and miles of fences. We toured two distilleries and I loved the science and the manufacturing aspects of them. At the end of the tours, we had an opportunity to sample the bourbon. I told my husband all along I was not going to taste it, but I surprised myself and I certainly surprised him when I did! I’m pretty sure that was the highlight of his trip.
