I love my perennial gardens but I also enjoy the challenge of turning my “annuals” into perennials. My husband used to think my obsessive harvesting of seeds and dragging pots into the garage for a “weathering down” period during winter was a waste of energy and a setup for disappointment. And then he witnessed the resurgence of the red geraniums!
When I reminded him the zinnias making such a bold show in the front bed are the results of seeds I harvested two years ago, he smiled and asked if this meant I’d spend less time at the garden center next spring since I already had enough flowers. The smile said he already knew the answer to that one. How can you ever have enough flowers??
